Galopp? Gallop!*

I simply love animation.
I love books, too, and I’m especially attracted by pop-up books.
I'm absolutely addicted to books about animation.

Galopp!

And then I found this incredible animated pop-up book called GALOPP! in a local book store a few weeks ago... It’s awesome, and this seems to be the reason why it became a children’s book bestseller. Its author Rufus Butler Seder appears to be absolutely dedicated to animated toys and developed a technique called Scanimation which gives life to the animals in this book.

Get the Flash Player to see this player.

If you’d like to know how it works, have a look at youtube.com where Rufus is revealing the secrets of this simple but amazing technique. You’ll find some Photoshop tutorials about Scanimation there, too.

Rufus Butler Seder also published two other books based on the same idea.

* GALOPP! is the German title; the English one is GALLOP!

I KNOW! I felt the same as you when I found the book too! I couldn't believe it! Wow!

I thought I'd use the concept to make our xmas cards last year, but it seemed too daunting to try!

Hehe, Shelley, that's exactly what I thought, making this year's christmas cards like this... :)

m_) Love to animation, to me, can be translated this way: "I love animation because I love the beauty of motion", not because I love what I am doing, but because I love to explore the beauty of KNOWING what I am doing-while motion persists, of course, and the laws of gravity are purely defied by human imagination and the endless possibilities within our thoughts.

Or maybe I should say I LOVE ANIMATION!
Is this same love what makes the statement too short?

m_) Unfortunately, I know very few books about animation and most of what I know has been through my own mistakes, suggestions from online masters, and several accidents that turned out friendly companions [that still stick around]. There is only one book of animation I had the opportunity to have in my hands, and that one was ASK (animator's surival kit) and one more was "The Art of Stop Motion Animation" Other than those (without counting Preston Blair's for free online) I don't think I've ever read anything else. Needless to say, I never finished reading them, I just looked at the pictures mostly.

Here is a perfect example of someone recommending a book to me. I have a big list at this point of books I should read. One day I also want to read the biography of Da Vinci, I just have some doubts about his personality and I remember myself starting the very first 5 pages but then the librarian told me they were CLOSING!!

Regardless of not having time to research, if I COULD choose, I can see myself absolutely immersed into some library and reading and reading all kinds of books. Not just from animators but from anyone who is an explorer and is worth to be read. You know, pioneers, inventors. They deserve our time, for they served all their time to us [the future]

At work [not really work] there are several turn offs -for instance, this computer does not let me hear anything. There is not sound. Another disadvantage is that the flash player is not installed and I don't have administrator's permission to install anything. So I will surely check your book at home and see the magic later. Also will remember to check the youtube page.

m_) Thanks for sharing. Deeply appreciated.

m_) I finally could watch your video here.

m_) You were absolutely right, it looks great and the beauty of motion is perfectly captured in each page -while turning.

m_) Nice sound in that star haha.

m_) Also I am learning German with your book. That was probably better than any promotional sale. I got to see the entire book =)

For the record: they didn't pay me for advertise this book here! :) I just really like it!

Today I showed it to a good friend who visited us and he liked it as much as I do... And yes, the sound of the star is terrific!
